Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to all memberships and services provided by 1610 Performance Group Pty Ltd, trading as Barbell 1610. By signing up and paying for a membership, you agree to the terms set out below.

1. Membership terms

Barbell 1610 offers the following membership services, billed monthly in advance:

  • Barbell Team – powerlifting coaching.

  • Strong & Spicy – group strength and conditioning.

  • Personal Training – one-on-one coaching, billed per session or per package.

  • Online Coaching – remote coaching and programming.

Membership fees are charged on a recurring monthly basis via PayFast. Payment is taken at the start of each billing cycle. Membership grants access to the booked service for the paid period and does not transfer between services.

Joining fee: A once-off joining fee of R350 is payable on sign-up, in addition to the first month’s membership fee. The joining fee is non-refundable. If a membership is cancelled or lapses and the member later wishes to re-join, the joining fee is payable again.

Members are responsible for keeping their payment details up to date. All payments processed relate directly to memberships and services provided by Barbell 1610. If a recurring payment is rejected, Barbell 1610 reserves the right to suspend access until the outstanding amount is settled.

2. Cancellation policy

Memberships run on a monthly basis and continue until cancelled.

Notice period: One calendar month’s written notice is required to cancel a membership. Notice given during a month takes effect at the end of the following calendar month. The current month and the notice month remain payable in full.

How to cancel: Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to info@cf1610.co.za. A cancellation is only effective once confirmed by Barbell 1610. Verbal requests are not accepted.

Members remain liable for all fees due up to the effective cancellation date. Failure to attend sessions does not constitute cancellation.

3. Refund policy

Membership fees are non-refundable. Once a billing cycle has been paid, the fee for that period is not refundable, whether or not the member attends sessions during that period.

Medical suspension: Where a member is unable to train due to a genuine medical condition or injury, Barbell 1610 may agree to suspend (pause) the membership for an agreed period rather than issue a refund. Suspension is granted at the discretion of Barbell 1610 and may require supporting documentation from a medical practitioner.

4. Health and fitness

It is the member’s responsibility to ensure they are medically fit to take part in strength and conditioning training. Members should undergo a health assessment by a medical professional before starting and must seek prompt medical advice if they have any concerns about their condition.

Members must disclose any injuries, medical conditions, or limitations to their coach before training, and must follow all coaching instructions and studio rules during sessions.

5. Liability and indemnity

Barbell 1610 takes reasonable care to keep its equipment and facilities in good order. However, strength training and exercise carry inherent risks. Members train at their own risk.

To the extent permitted by law, Barbell 1610 will not be liable for any direct or indirect loss, damage, injury, trauma, or death suffered by a member on the premises or in the course of any session or service provided. The member indemnifies Barbell 1610 against any claim arising from their own wrongful act or omission, or from any loss or damage to their property or that of others.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights the member has under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008, where it applies.

6. Personal information

By signing up, the member agrees that Barbell 1610 may collect, use, and process the personal information they provide as necessary to deliver its services, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This includes payment details processed securely through PayFast.

Barbell 1610 may use this information to communicate about sessions, billing, and administration, and to send relevant updates. The member’s information will not be sold or shared with third parties except as needed to provide the service.

7. Suspension and termination

Barbell 1610 reserves the right to suspend or terminate a membership where the member commits a serious or repeated breach of these terms or studio rules, where any fee due is not paid, where the information provided is untrue or incomplete, or where their conduct negatively affects other members, staff, or the premises.
